Middle Years Program 

The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools, or in several abbreviated (two, three, or four years) formats. BHA is implementing the three year format for grades 6th- 8th and is currently seeking authorization for MYP. The three-year program culminates in Year 3 with the Community Project. We are also an authorized IB-World school for the PYP (Primary Years Program) for grades Pre-K – 5th. The MYP is a continuation of the IB – Program for our middle schoolers to have consistency, continued rigorous learning and global mindedness, as well as learn to become prepared for the real world and college-preparatory environment of our high school.

MYP Classroom 

In an MYP classroom, you will notice that the students are at the centre of learning. They are drawing connections between all subject areas, learning is explicitly linked to the world around them, participation in a foreign language is required, and a variety of formal and informal assessments are used to inform teaching and learning. MYP learning experiences infuse global points of view wherever possible in order to promote understanding of other cultures, an awareness of the human condition and an understanding that there is a commonality of human experience. 

MYP Curriculum Framework 

The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents. Students take the core courses of language and literature, individuals and societies, mathematics, sciences, physical and health education, language acquisition (Arabic), arts, and design. A unique feature of the programme is that it extends the traditional curriculum to include immersion in four themes – approaches to teaching and approaches to learning, global contexts and concepts. Students also complete the Community Project in Year 3, or 8th grade, which is a service-as-action project students complete of their own design and interest. 

What is an IB World School? 

Brighter Horizons Academy is an IB World school* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme and is pursuing authorization for the Middle Years Programme.

IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.

*Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
