Continuing Education Program

The Academy will be offering classes for adults ages 18+ to learn from experienced teachers in various subjects.
We are excited to be launching this as a pilot program and the first class being offered is an Arabic Novice class.

Course Description

Arabic Novice 101 is an introduction to the pronunciation, basic comprehension and communication of Arabic through active class use of simple vocabulary, grammar and syntax. The course focuses on the four basic skills of the language: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.  It starts with recognizing, pronouncing and writing the various alphabetical letters. Then, you will learn how to build these letters into words and words into sentences.  Students are required to learn the basic vocabulary introduced in class. They are required to practice pronunciation of the new alphabet and vocabulary words introduced in class. The class will hold group discussions which focus on Arab Culture and Traditions in various geographical areas in the Arab world.

This course is recommended for adult students who have no prior exposure to Arabic or would like to start from the very beginning.

Student Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recognize, write and pronounce the 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet.
  2. Recognize symbols that function as short vowels and pronunciation markers.
  3. Pronounce and make distinction between long vowels and short vowels.
  4. Recognize, write and pronounce the numbers 1-9, of the Arabic language.
  5. Construct meaningful phrases and simple sentences.
  6. Communicate in simple Arabic sentences.
  7. Write short & simple paragraphs and answer questions about short written texts.
  8. Know common phrases and basic vocabulary.
  9.  Have some general knowledge of the Arabic culture and language.

    Ustadh Awawdeh has over 20 years of teaching experience in private and public educational institutions. He has Masters of Education in Bilingual Education from William Paterson university. He has earned a Masters in Islamic Education from Guidance College. Awawdeh has taught Arabic language at the college level for 6 years at Montclair State University in New Jersey and is currently teaching and high school Arabic at Brighter Horizons Academy.
